Key point of comparison:

The ASMI holds a clear advantage in terms of firepower, magazine capacity, automatic firing capability, and effective range, whereas the POF-4's major advantages are its simpler pistol configuration and comparatively lighter weight. Both use the 9×19mm caliber, but their intended roles differ.

Overall, the Indian DRDO, ASMI and POF-4 Pakistan Ordinance Factory manufactured pistols represent two different approaches to 9×19mm small arms, with each system designed to meet different operational and user requirements.

Why Indigenous Small-Arms Manufacturing Matters:

The Domestic Indigenous small-arms production is not only about manufacturing weapons; In fact, it encompasses factors such as quality control, a consistent of components and ammunition, its technical expertise, and the availability of all spare parts. For defense manufacturers, maintaining production continuity and providing long-term maintenance support can be just as critical as the weapon's initial specifications.

India's 'ASMI' program reflects a joint development effort between the DRDO and the Indian Army, while Pakistan's POF includes the 'POF-4' in its official catalog.

These examples highlight the role national defense institutions play in the development and manufacturing of equipment to meet their countries' requirements and needs.

However, it is worth noting that domestic production alone does not guarantee a weapon's quality and reliability, its cost-effectiveness, or it's operational performance. Reliable production data and independent evaluation are essential to accurately assess these aspects.
