Pakistan Z-10ME vs India HAL LCH Prachand: Attack Helicopter Comparison 2026
In modern military operations, while fighter aircraft play a crucial role, while, attack helicopters also provide vital aerial support to ground forces through close air support, anti-armor missions, and battlefield operations. Countries across the globe are modernizing their military helicopter capabilities, and Asian nations—including India and Pakistan—are no exception.
So In this article, we will compare the Two attack helicopters of both nations: Which is India's modernized HAL LCH Prachand and the other other side Pakistan Army's Z-10 attack helicopter. This comparison will examine aspects such as development history, design, engines, speed, range, altitude capabilities, armor protection, sensors, avionics, weaponry, and operational status.

China's Z-10ME is an upgraded, export-oriented variant of China's Z-10 attack helicopter, which was manufactured on 2003. The New variant of Z-10 is developed by the Chinese aviation industry for international customers. Compared to the standard Z-10, this variant features improvements in engine- protection, survivability, electronic warfare capabilities, sensors, and battlefield operational capabilities.
This upgraded version—the Z-10ME—was first showcased as an export variant in 2018, and AVIC prominently displayed it for the international export market at the 2024 Singapore Airshow.
Here The question arises Which is: why did Pakistan ultimately select the Z-10ME? and Did you know that Pakistan had evaluated 3 of China's Z-10 attack helicopters for trials back in 2015?
However, after perform the following those tests of Z-10, Pakistan did not select the Z-10 model available at the time because the performance of its WZ-9 engines was deemed unsatisfactory for high-altitude operations; consequently, Pakistan did not acquire that version.
But Later, the improved Z-10ME variant emerged as a suitable fit for Pakistan's requirements. According to public reports, the Pakistan Army arranged for the acquisition of 40 w helicopters, and the induction of the Z-10ME into the Pakistan Army Aviation Corps was publicly reported on 2025. The official induction event held by the Pakistan Army was also reported by the Associated Press of Pakistan.
Now if discuss the specifications of the Z-10ME helicopter, it is a dedicated two-seat attack helicopter featuring a tandem (front-and-rear) cockpit arrangement for the pilot and the weapons systems operator.
Reports indicate that its airframe is approximately 14.2 to 14.15 meters long and about 3.85 meters high. and Weight figures, generally, its empty weight is cited as approximately 5.1 to 5.5 tons, while its maximum take-off weight is reported to be around 7.0 to 7.2 tons.
The helicopter is using WZ-9C engines which is powerful than old Z-10 engine, and its maximum speed is approximately 300 km/h. Furthermore, if we talk about its roles, the primary roles of the Z-10ME include close air support, operations against armored vehicles, and battlefield attack missions.
Weapons :
The Z-10ME with a nose-mounted 23mm cannon and features multiple weapon mounting points on its stub wings. Depending on the configuration, its armament may include AKD-10/HJ-10 anti-tank- guided missiles, TY-90 air-to-air missiles, unguided rockets, and CM-502KG precision-guided munitions. According to public sources, its maximum weapon-carrying capacity (payload) is approximately 1,500 kg.
Alongside this, the Z-10ME has undergone upgrades to its sensors, radar, electronic warfare capabilities, and survivability and protection systems, thereby enhancing the helicopter's situational awareness, defensive capabilities, and battlefield survivability.

Indian Army Aviation HAL LCH Prachand Helicopter is a dedicated attack helicopter, which is indigenously designed and developed by Indian Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) manufactured in 2017.
According to HAL, about this helicopter, That the LCH is a 5.8-ton class combat helicopter which is designed for anti-infantry and anti-armour missions, as well as for high-altitude operations. It features a tandem seating configuration, meaning the pilot and co-pilot sit one behind the other.
In terms of its engine, specifications, and performance, the LCH Prachand helicopter is powered by two robust Shakti Turboshaft (Safran Ardiden 1H1) engines, which is designed to enable operation in high-altitude and extreme climatic conditions.
If we look to manufacturing history, The HAL developed the LCH by leveraging technologies, design expertise, and shared systems from the Dhruv program; Both aircraft share common elements such as the Shakti engine family and rotor/dynamic system technology. However, the LCH was designed specifically as a dedicated combat/attack helicopter. Consequently, instead of the utility-style fuselage found on the Dhruv, it features a narrow tandem-seat cockpit, stub wings, and weapon systems, with a specific focus on meeting high-altitude combat requirements. HAL itself designates the LCH as a "Dedicated Combat Helicopter."
Additionally, the 'HAL Prachand' has an empty weight of 2,250 kg (4,960 lb), a maximum take-off weight of 5,800 kg (12,787 lb), a length of 15.8 meters (51.8 ft), and a width (rotor span) of approximately 13.2 to 13.3 meters (43.3 to 43.6 ft).
Weapons :
The Indian Army HAL LCH Prachand Helicopter is designed to carry a variety of weapons for anti-armor and close-air-support missions. According to official HAL(Hindustan Aeronautics Limited) shared specifications, it integrates a 20 mm turret gun, 68/70 mm rocket pods, air-to-surface missiles, and air-to-air missiles. A helmet-mounted targeting system and a laser designation system facilitate precision engagement.
